Creating and viewing filter templates

This reference explains how to create and apply filter templates, as well as how to view the filter templates created within your workspace or workspace group.

Introduction

Use filter templates to apply the same filter criteria in several widgets. Filter templates are filters that have been created and saved so they can be applied to other widgets. Apply filter templates to widgets in the Explore page and also to widgets in a dashboard within your workspace. Filter templates can be created within the Explore page and also in a dashboard for which you have edit permissions.

Creating filter templates in the Explore page

To create a filter template, follow these steps:

  1. In the platform navigation menu, click Explore.

  2. Select the workspace you work with in Explore & Present.

  3. Next to the View tabs at the top of the page, click Create new view.

  4. In the Filters section, click one of the following:

    • Add dimension filter

    • Add metric filter

  5. In either the Choose dimension or Choose metric drop-down menu, select the dimension or metric for which you want to create a filter.

  6. In the Filter by drop-down menu, select the dimension or metric value. For metric filters, enter the filter criteria.

  7. Click Apply.

  8. In the Filters section, click Save filter template.

  9. In Filter template name, enter a name for the filter template. This must be a unique name.

  10. Click Apply.

As a result, a filter template is created and can be applied to other widgets within the workspace.

Creating filter templates in a dashboard

If you have edit permissions for a dashboard, you can create filter templates from the widgets contained in a dashboard. To create a filter template for a dimension in a dashboard, follow these steps:

  1. In the platform navigation menu, click Present.

  2. Select the workspace you work with in Explore & Present.

  3. Click the dashboard in which you want to create a filter template.

  4. Find the widget from which you want to create a filter template and click Widget settings.

  5. Click Edit dimension filters.

  6. Click Add dimension filters.

  7. In the Dimension filter pop-up window, configure the filter to save as a filter template. For more information on configuring a filter, see Adding a dimension filter to the widgets.

  8. Click Apply.

  9. Click Save filter template.

  10. In Filter template name, enter a name for the filter template. This must be a unique name.

  11. Click Apply.

As a result, a filter template is created from the dashboard and can be applied to other widgets within the workspace. The procedure for creating a metric filter template is the same as for creating a dimension filter template.

Applying filter templates to a widget in Explore

To apply a filter template to a widget in the Explore page, follow these steps:

  1. In the platform navigation menu, click Explore.

  2. Select the workspace you work with in Explore & Present.

  3. Go to the View tab which contains the widget to which you want to apply a filter template.

  4. In the Filters section, click Load filter template.

  5. In the Select filter template drop-down, choose the filter template to apply.

  6. Click Apply.

As a result, a filter template is applied to your widget.

Applying filter templates to a widget in a dashboard

If you have edit permissions for a dashboard, you can apply filter templates to the widgets contained in the dashboard.

To apply a filter template to a widget in a dashboard, follow these steps:

  1. In the platform navigation menu, click Present.

  2. Select the workspace you work with in Explore & Present.

  3. Click the dashboard to which you want to apply a filter template.

  4. Find the widget to which you want to apply a filter template and click Widget settings.

  5. Click Edit dimension filters.

  6. Click Load filter template.

  7. In the Select filter template drop-down, choose the filter template to apply.

  8. Click Apply.

As a result, a filter template is applied to the widget within the dashboard.

Viewing filter templates

To view all the filter templates created within your workspace or workspace group, follow these steps:

  1. In the platform navigation menu, click Explore.

  2. Select the workspace you work with in Explore & Present.

  3. Enter workspace administration.

  4. In the left navigation panel, click Segments.

The Segments page displays the following filter template information:

Workspace

This is the workspace in which the filter template was created.

Name

This is the user who created the filter template.

Filter

This displays a summary of what the filter does. This displays the metric or dimension value and also the operator used by the filter. For example, a filter that excludes the Device dimension value of undefined is displayed as NOT Device is <undefined>.

User

This displays the name of the user (and their email address) who created the filter template.

Date Created

This displays the date on which the filter template was created.

Last Update

This displays the date on which the filter template was last updated.

Deleting filter templates

To delete a filter template, follow these steps:

  1. In the platform navigation menu, click Explore.

  2. Select the workspace you work with in Explore & Present.

  3. Enter workspace administration.

  4. In the left navigation panel, click Segments.

  5. In the Segments page, find the row that contains the filter template to delete.

  6. Click Delete.

  7. To confirm the deletion of the filter template, click Delete Segment.

As a result, Adverity deletes the filter template and removes it from the Segments page. If the filter template has been applied to a widget, the filter remains in place, only the filter template is removed.
