Filter types in Explore & Present

This reference article explains the different ways to filter data in Explore & Present.

Filter types

There are two types of filter:

  • Widget filters

    Use widget filters to filter data at the level of individual widgets.

  • Dashboard filters

    Use dashboard filters to filter data at the level of dashboards and dashboard pages.

    There are two types of dashboard filter:

    • Quickfilters

    • Permanent filters

You can filter for the following data types:

  • Date range

    Use date range filters to narrow down the date range of the displayed data.

  • Dimension

    Use dimension filters to narrow down the displayed data based on the values of a dimension. For example, use a dimension filter to exclude the data of a campaign from being displayed.

  • Metric

    Use metric filters to narrow down the data displayed based on the values of a metric. For example, use a metric filter to only display campaigns with more than 10,000 impressions.

Rights of dashboard viewers

Dashboard viewers can filter the data displayed in their dashboard with quickfilters. This change only applies to their session and other viewers still see the filter settings set by dashboard editors.

Dashboard viewers cannot change widget filters and permanent dashboard filters set by the dashboard editors.

Scope and appearance of filters

Apply different types of filter in the following ways:

  • Widget filters only apply to a single widget.

  • You can add quickfilters to a dashboard page or to the whole dashboard.

    • You can apply page-level quickfilters to all or specific widgets in a dashboard page.

    • You can apply dashboard-level quickfilters to all or specific dashboard pages in a dashboard.

  • You can apply permanent filters to all or specific dashboard pages in a dashboard.

The appearance of different types of filter is the following:

  • Page-level quickfilters appear as a widget in the page.

  • Dashboard-level quickfilters appear as a header on top of selected pages in the dashboard.

  • Permanent filters appear as an icon at the top of selected pages in the dashboard.

Limitations of filters

Filters come with the following limitations:

  • You can use maximum 2 dimensions in a dashboard-level dimension quickfilter.

  • You can assign only one permanent filter to each dashboard page.
