Managing dimensions, metrics and calculated KPIs

This reference article explains how to manage dimensions, metrics and calculated KPIs in the Explore element.

Managing dimensions in Explore

To manage dimensions in the Explore page, follow these steps:

  1. In the platform navigation menu, click Explore.

  2. Enter workspace administration.

  1. In the left navigation panel, click KPIs and Dimensions.

As a result, you see a table of dimensions with the following columns:

  • Schema name displays the names of the dimensions as they appear in the Adverity Data Schema. For more information on Data Schemas, see Managing Data Schemas.

  • Explore & Present name displays the names of the dimensions as they appear in your Explore & Present workspace.

  • Visible displays whether a dimension is visible in your Explore & Present workspace or not.

  • Datasources displays the number of data sources where the dimension is used.

Use the search and filter fields above the table to display only the dimensions relevant for you.

Renaming a dimension in Explore & Present

To change the name of a dimension as it appears in Explore & Present, follow these steps:

  1. Find the line of the dimension in the list.

  2. To the right, click Edit column.

  3. In Name, rename the dimension.

  4. Click Update.

Hiding a dimension in Explore & Present

To hide a dimension in your Explore & Present workspace, follow these steps:

  1. Find the line of the dimension in the list.

  2. In the Visible column, disable the toggle.

As a result, the dimension is not displayed in your Explore & Present workspace. To make the dimension visible again, enable the toggle in the Visible column.

Getting an overview of dimension usage

To get an overview of how a dimension is used in Explore & Present, follow these steps:

  1. Find the line of the dimension in the list.

  2. To the right, click Column details. As a result, a pop-up window opens and displays how the dimension is used in Explore & Present.

  3. To get a list of widgets in which the dimension is used, click in the line Dashboard widgets [this and below].

  4. To delete the information about how the dimension is used, click Delete underlying data.

Managing metrics in Explore

To manage metrics in the Explore page, follow these steps:

  1. In the platform navigation menu, click Explore.

  2. Enter workspace administration.

  1. In the left navigation panel, click KPIs and Dimensions.

  2. To manage metrics, click the Metrics tab at the top of the page.

As a result, you see a table of metrics with the following columns:

  • Schema name displays the names of the metrics as they appear in the Adverity Data Schema. For more information on Data Schemas, see Managing Data Schemas.

  • Explore & Present name displays the names of the metrics as they appear in your Explore & Present workspace.

  • Visible displays whether a metric is visible in your Explore & Present workspace or not.

  • Percentage displays if a metric contains percentage values.

  • Currency displays if a metric contains currency values.

  • Datasources displays the number of data sources where the metric is used.

  • Measure displays the mathematical function underlying the values in a Dimension.

Use the search and filter fields above the table to display only the metrics relevant for you.

Renaming a metric in Explore & Present

To change the name of a metric as it appears in Explore & Present, follow these steps:

  1. Find the line of the metric in the list.

  2. To the right, click Edit column.

  3. In Name, rename the metric.

  4. Click Update.

Configuring a metric in Explore & Present

To configure a metric in Explore & Present, follow these steps:

  1. Find the line of the metric in the list.

  2. To the right, click Edit column.

  3. In Default measure, specify the mathematical function underlying the values in the metric.

  4. In Default total measure, specify the mathematical function Adverity uses to calculate the total row for the metric.

  5. In Fractional digits, specify the number of decimal places displayed for this metric in Explore & Present.

  6. Click Update.

Hiding a metric in Explore & Present

To hide a metric in your Explore & Present workspace, follow these steps:

  1. Find the line of the metric in the list.

  2. In the Visible column, disable the toggle.

As a result, the metric is not displayed in your Explore & Present workspace. To make the metric visible again, enable the toggle in the Visible column.

Managing calculated KPIs in Explore

To manage calculated KPIs in the Explore page, follow these steps:

  1. In the platform navigation menu, click Explore.

  2. Enter workspace administration.

  1. In the left navigation panel, click KPIs and Dimensions.

  2. To manage calculated KPIs, click the Calculated KPIs tab at the top of the page.

As a result, you see a table of calculated KPIs with the following columns:

  • Schema name displays the names of the calculated KPIs as they appear in the Adverity Data Schema. For more information on Data Schemas, see Managing Data Schemas.

  • Explore & Present name displays the names of the calculated KPIs as they appear in your Explore & Present workspace.

  • Visible displays whether a calculated KPI is visible in your Explore & Present workspace or not.

  • Percentage displays if a calculated KPI contains percentage values.

  • Currency displays if a calculated KPI contains currency values.

  • Datasources displays the number of data sources where the calculated KPI is used.

  • Workspaces displays the number of workspaces where the calculated KPI is used.

  • Formula displays the formula used to compute the calculated KPI.

Use the search and filter fields above the table to display only the calculated KPIs relevant for you.

To change the name of a calculated KPI as it appears in Explore & Present, follow these steps:

  1. Find the line of the calculated KPI in the list.

  2. To the right, click Edit column.

  3. In Name, rename the calculated KPI.

  4. Click Update.

Configuring a calculated KPI in Explore & Present

To configure a calculated KPI in Explore & Present, follow these steps:

  1. Find the line of the calculated KPI in the list.

  2. To the right, click Edit column.

  3. In Default total measure, specify the mathematical function Adverity uses to calculate the total row for the calculated KPI.

  4. In Fractional digits, specify the number of decimal places displayed for this calculated KPI in Explore & Present.

  5. Click Update.

Editing a calculated KPI

To edit a calculated KPI, follow these steps:

  1. Find the line of the calculated KPI in the list.

  2. In the Formula column, click Edit calculated KPI.

  3. Make changes to the configuration.

  4. Click Update calculated KPI.

Hiding a calculated KPI in Explore & Present

To hide a calculated KPI in your Explore & Present workspace, follow these steps:

  1. Find the line of the calculated KPI in the list.

  2. In the Visible column, disable the toggle.

As a result, the calculated KPI is not displayed in your Explore & Present workspace. To make the calculated KPI visible again, enable the toggle in the Visible column.
